00Introduction and Scope

MIXANEA welcomes fan creations and fan activities by members of the community.

We hope you enjoy our characters and worlds through your own creativity, ideas, and interpretations.
These Guidelines have been established to clarify the scope within which everyone can enjoy such activities with confidence.

These Guidelines apply to fan creations and fan activities independently created by third parties using characters, names, settings, relationships, worlds, stories, and other content created through MIXANEA and managed by MIXANEA or the relevant rights holders.

In these Guidelines, “MIXANEA” means the MIXANEA brand and the entity responsible for its operation.

In these Guidelines, “MIXANEA IP” means characters, names, settings, relationships, worlds, stories, illustrations, videos, audio, other content, and the intellectual property relating to them that is managed by MIXANEA.

As a general rule, individual permission is not required for ordinary fan activities carried out within the scope of these Guidelines.

Where MIXANEA distributes or provides official materials subject to specific terms of use, users must also comply with any terms accompanying those materials.

Where separate conditions are established for a particular Unit, character, work, distributed material, or other content, those separate conditions must also be followed.

The Japanese version of these Guidelines is the authoritative version. If there is any difference, inconsistency, or conflict in interpretation between the Japanese version and this English translation, the Japanese version shall prevail.

01Fan Creations

We welcome fan creations and fan activities that include the creator’s own ideas, creativity, or expression, such as the following:

  • Original fan art, comics, and illustrations
  • Doujinshi and other publications
  • Videos, fan videos, and clips with original editing
  • Music
  • Cosplay
  • Fan games
  • Novels and other written works
  • Self-created fan goods
  • Commentary and discussion regarding characters or worlds
  • Other fan activities in which the user’s own creativity constitutes the primary value of the work

As a general principle, fan creations should involve the creator’s own creativity or effort rather than merely reproducing or reposting existing content.

02Requests Regarding Fan Creations

When creating or sharing fan works, please be considerate of others who enjoy the characters and works, and comply with applicable laws, platform terms of service, and other applicable rules.

Please refrain from the following expressions or uses:

  • Content that could cause others to mistakenly believe that it is official MIXANEA content, affiliated with MIXANEA, officially supervised, approved, officially partnered, or an official collaboration
  • Content that seriously violates public order and morals or is antisocial in nature
  • Content that seriously damages the image or reputation of MIXANEA, any Unit, character, or other MIXANEA IP
  • Content intended to defame, discriminate against, harass, or infringe the rights of MIXANEA, any Unit, character, Creator, or other third party
  • Content that infringes third-party copyrights, trademarks, portrait rights, privacy rights, or other rights or interests
  • Content that violates applicable laws or the terms of service of the platform being used
  • Uses connected to impersonation, fraud, piracy, counterfeit goods, or similar conduct
  • Use of MIXANEA’s official logos, official marks, or similar branding in a manner that could cause users to mistake the work for an official product or service

This does not prohibit the use of character names or work titles solely for the purpose of identifying the subject of a fan creation.

03Doujin Activities, Distribution and Monetization

3.1 Doujin Activities by Individuals and Groups

Individuals and groups without legal personality may, as a general rule, create, distribute, and sell fan works within the scope of hobbies and ordinary fan activities without obtaining individual permission.

This includes, within the ordinary scope of doujin activities:

  • Doujinshi
  • Original illustrated works
  • Self-created fan goods
  • Fan games
  • Music works
  • Other fan works in which the creator’s own creativity constitutes the primary value

We do not establish a uniform limit based solely on production quantity or sales amount. Whether an activity falls within the permitted scope will be assessed comprehensively based on factors such as scale, sales method, sales period, and commercial nature.

3.2 Uses Requiring Prior Consultation

The following are treated separately from ordinary fan activities and require prior consultation or individual permission:

  • Use by corporations or businesses in products, advertisements, services, campaigns, or similar activities
  • Activities that are effectively conducted under the responsibility of, or as part of the business of, a corporation or business, including cases where a corporation or business bears production costs
  • Large-scale or continuous commercialization
  • Uses that MIXANEA determines exceed the scope of ordinary hobby or fan activities based on the scale, sales method, sales period, commercial nature, or other circumstances
  • Uses that may be mistaken for official products or official services
04Clips of Videos and Streams

When creating clips using portions of official MIXANEA videos, streams, or similar content, please add your own editing, structure, commentary, or other creative elements so that the result provides viewing value distinct from the original content.

4.1 Identification of the Original Content

When publishing a clip, please generally include the following in the description or another location that viewers can easily find:

  • The title of the original official video or stream
  • The URL of the original official video or stream

4.2 Live Streams

As a general rule, clips based on live streams should be posted only after the stream has ended and the official MIXANEA archive has been made available.

4.3 Paid and Limited-Access Content

Unless separately authorized by MIXANEA, clipping, reposting, or otherwise publicly using the following content is prohibited:

  • Membership-only content
  • Paid streams
  • Paid event footage
  • Purchaser-only content
  • Other content that requires payment or limited eligibility in order to access

4.4 Prohibited Reposting and Editing

The following uses are not permitted:

  • Reposting all or substantially all of official videos, Shorts, stream archives, or similar content
  • Reposting content with only minor modifications such as simple clipping, cropping, captions, text overlays, speed or pitch changes, horizontal flipping, frames, or watermarks
  • Large-scale, repetitive, or automated reposting of official content
  • Simply combining multiple official videos or other content
  • Compilation videos that substitute for viewing a substantial portion of the original content
  • Channels or similar activities whose primary value is the reuse of official content itself
  • Editing that materially distorts the meaning of statements or events, or titles and thumbnails intentionally designed to create misunderstanding

4.5 Monetization

Where the creator’s own editing, commentary, structure, or other creative contribution constitutes the primary value and the content complies with these Guidelines and other applicable rules, monetization through ordinary platform features such as advertising revenue and tipping is generally permitted.

This does not permit monetization of reposting, viewing substitutes, pirated content, or any other use prohibited by these Guidelines.

4.6 Registration with Content ID or Similar Systems

Clips, fan videos, and other content created using MIXANEA IP must not be registered with Content ID or any other automated identification or rights-management system as if the creator held exclusive rights to the work.

4.7 Third-Party Content

If original MIXANEA content includes video, images, music, games, or other content owned by third parties, users must also comply with the terms established by the relevant rights holders.

MIXANEA does not grant permission to use rights owned by third parties.

05AI and Machine Learning

Use of MIXANEA characters, official illustrations, official voices, official videos, or other MIXANEA IP as training data for generative AI or machine-learning models, additional training, LoRA, fine-tuning, or similar purposes is not permitted under these Guidelines.

Similarly, use of generative AI for the purpose of imitating or reproducing MIXANEA IP to generate the following is not permitted under these Guidelines:

  • Images
  • Videos
  • Audio
  • 3D content
  • Text reproducing character personalities or conversations
  • AI character bots
  • AI avatars
  • Voice clones
  • Other expressions that imitate or reproduce MIXANEA IP

This section applies to the use of generative AI for the purpose of generating, imitating, or reproducing MIXANEA characters, appearances, voices, personalities, or other IP expressions.

It does not uniformly prohibit ordinary assistive processing that does not itself newly generate, imitate, or reproduce such IP expressions, including:

  • Image resizing
  • Compression
  • Noise removal
  • Color correction
  • Subtitle generation
  • Other similar general editing or assistive processing

This section establishes conditions for AI and machine-learning use of MIXANEA IP by third parties. It does not restrict the use of AI in official production by MIXANEA or the relevant rights holders.

MIXANEA regards AI as one of the technologies that can expand the possibilities of creativity and expression, and may use AI technologies in official content production while appropriately managing character IP quality, rights, settings, and expression.

06Violence, Politics and Religion

The following uses are prohibited:

  • Use of characters, names, settings, worlds, or similar elements to glorify, encourage, incite, or specifically facilitate murder, assault, terrorism, abuse, torture, or other serious violence
  • Expressions whose primary purpose is violence itself and that excessively emphasize cruelty, suffering, bodily injury, or similar elements
  • Excessive violent expressions that MIXANEA determines seriously damage the reputation of MIXANEA or its IP
  • Use of MIXANEA, any Unit, character, name, logo, world, or similar element to support or oppose, promote, solicit for, raise donations for, or otherwise participate in activities relating to a specific political party, politician, candidate, political organization, election campaign, or political ideology or position
  • Use of MIXANEA, any Unit, character, name, logo, world, or similar element to support or oppose, promote, proselytize, solicit for, raise donations for, or otherwise participate in activities relating to a specific religion, denomination, religious organization, or doctrine

This section does not uniformly prohibit fictional battles, action, horror, or ordinary expression concerning history, culture, or society.

However, MIXANEA or its IP may not be used as the subject or promotional representative of political or religious activities, and the excessive violent expressions described above are not permitted.

07Fan Creations and Fan Activities Outside Japan

These Guidelines generally apply in the same manner to fan creations and fan activities conducted outside Japan.

However, laws and systems relating to copyright, trademarks, expression, sales, events, and other matters differ by country and region. Even where an activity is permitted under these Guidelines, users must comply with the laws and other applicable rules of the country or region in which the activity is conducted.

Views concerning religion, culture, social customs, and other matters may also differ by country and region. Please respect local cultures and customs.

The social and legal treatment of doujin culture and fan activities may not be the same as in Japan. When distributing or selling works, holding events, or conducting other activities outside Japan, users are responsible for confirming all applicable laws and regulations.

Activities by individuals or groups without legal personality that remain within the scope of hobbies and ordinary fan activities are subject to these Guidelines in the same manner as activities in Japan.

Use by corporations or businesses, large-scale commercialization, advertising or promotional use, and other uses exceeding ordinary fan activities require prior consultation or individual permission.

08Fan Events

Individuals and groups may participate in general doujin events, conventions, and similar events, and may hold small-scale, unofficial fan gatherings, provided that the activities comply with these Guidelines.

The following require prior consultation or individual permission:

  • Events primarily themed around MIXANEA, a specific Unit, or a specific character that involve renting an entire venue, charging admission or other consideration, or are otherwise large-scale events
  • Large-scale or continuous events
  • Events with a high degree of commercial or business activity
  • Events organized or effectively operated by a corporation or business
  • Other events that exceed the scope of ordinary fan activities

Use of descriptions such as “official event,” “official collaboration,” or “officially approved event,” or any other presentation that could cause others to believe that MIXANEA organizes, sponsors, partners with, supervises, or has approved the event, is prohibited.

If MIXANEA determines that action is necessary due to a violation of these Guidelines, infringement of rights, confusion with official activities, or other circumstances, we may request cancellation, modification, or other appropriate action regarding the event or activity.

09Rights

These Guidelines do not constitute a waiver or transfer of copyrights, neighboring rights, trademark rights, or any other rights held by MIXANEA or the relevant rights holders.

All such rights remain reserved by MIXANEA or the relevant rights holders.

These Guidelines state MIXANEA’s policy permitting fan creations and fan activities using MIXANEA characters, names, settings, worlds, and other content within the scope specified herein. They do not transfer copyrights or any other rights to users.

10Responses to Violations

Where activities violate these Guidelines, harm the rights or reputation of MIXANEA or a third party, create confusion with official activities, or otherwise require action in MIXANEA’s judgment, MIXANEA may take or request measures including:

  • Suspension of use
  • Modification of posts or works
  • Deletion
  • Suspension of distribution or sales
  • Cancellation of events
  • Action based on copyright, trademark, or other legal rights

12Other Matters

These Guidelines state MIXANEA’s policy regarding fan creations and fan activities based on Japanese law.

Separate restrictions or obligations may arise under the laws of individual countries or regions, the rules of platforms being used, or terms established by other third parties.

MIXANEA does not guarantee that compliance with these Guidelines alone means that an activity does not infringe third-party rights or is otherwise lawful.

If you use materials owned by third parties, you are responsible for obtaining any necessary rights or permissions.

If a dispute or other issue arises with a third party in connection with the use of MIXANEA content or any fan creation or fan activity, MIXANEA shall not be responsible except where the matter is attributable to MIXANEA.

MIXANEA does not guarantee an individual response to inquiries regarding the contents of these Guidelines, third-party terms of service, or whether a particular work complies with these Guidelines.

These Guidelines are not intended to restrict quotation or other uses permitted by copyright law or other applicable laws.

13Changes to These Guidelines

These Guidelines may be changed in response to changes in MIXANEA’s activities, the scale of its IP, technology, actual patterns of use, legal systems, or other circumstances.
